Module 9

Scootle looks like it has some interesting resources for educational purposes that I think I could use.
Whereas I believe it is essential for teachers to be aware of Social Networking sites, such as Facebook, Twitter etc, I am not yet convinced they can be used in an educational capacity - certainly not with Primary school children. However we would be niave to think that our upper Primary students do not belong to these social networking sites and use them at home. I use them myself, for personal use - for this purpose they are amazing. I catch up with friends and family overseas all the time aswell as friends here for drinks etc - but that is quite separate and different to my work - and I would like some things to stay that way!
Second Life seems like it may be something that could be interesting for virtual excursions to museums or back in time to specific eras that the children may be learning around. Maybe in the future ... my reservations with this right now are in terms of the time it takes to discover the precise aspect you are teaching through this medium. Sme times the time you devote to doing this is fruitless and something you could have planned with roll play, props (real, made or imagined) can be just as engaging and educational.
